Christine Calow - Artist

profile

Born in Cambridgeshire I studied at Cambridge School of Art where I was taught by the artist Nicholas Barnham, who instilled in me a love of printing, and where I was chosen by Edward Bawden to receive the annual Printmaking Travel Award. I went on to study for my B.A.(hons) Degree in Textile Design at Loughborough College of Art and Design, specialising in Printed Textiles.

I have worked as a fabric designer and printer, and have also taught on Art Foundation Courses in Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Essex, London and Surrey.

I currently create richly coloured and textured hand pulled limited edition and unique silkscreen prints and paper collages. I have exhibited widely for a number of years, and my work is in private collections in the UK and abroad.

I regularly exhibit with Espacio Gallery in London, and am also a member of the Printmakers Council.

Some of my passions are travel (especially to India and the Greek island of Andros), the paintings and prints of Albert Irvin and Hans Hofmann, and the expressive use of colour.
